With the elections due in October, The People's Choice team for Burwood Pegasus is always out and about in their ward. Here we all are at the well known Travis Wetlands.

Jasmin Teague, Nicky Taylor, Julie Gorman, Chrissie Williams, Tim Baker, Glenn Livingstone and Linda Stewart.
This amazing place is Christchurch's last major piece of freshwater wetland. It's located in north-east Christchurch, close to sea-level, and is typical of pre-European Christchurch and Canterbury plains swamp lands.
Travis is the largest wetland in Christchurch with an area of 56.5 hectares, and is unique in the fact that it is situated in an urban area.
Not many years ago these wetlands were grazed by cattle and looked like becoming yet another housing development. It is now a great place for everyone to enjoy as it is so easy to access.
Aranui is home
This area is home to a very active community, who happen to live and work in one of the city's lowest socio-economic areas. Supergrans, ACTIS and Heartlands are some of the community services here.
The People's Choice team is pictured here at Wainoni Park playground, where towering pou stand at the entrance to an adventure playground surrounded by native plants.
Behind this are large sports fields, a popular boxing club, and the site of the new library, due to open mid-2011.
The team is very keen to talk to locals about their views on the development and revitalisation of the area.
Water: It's the big question
An issue that is going to be very important for the Burwood Pegasus team is our water. Glenn Livingstone, a candidate for council, is especially concerned to work to protect this special resource.
A successful Coast to Coast competitor, Glenn has first hand experience of the healthy benefits clean water can bring. He wants the best care taken of our Avon and Waimakariri rivers.
The Government removed Canterbury's elected councillors and imposed an undemocratic plan for taking our water. Glenn asks, "Is it right that we should lose our clean drinking water? Why should we lose the ability to swim and fish in our rivers? Why do we have to lose our vote on these issues?"
The People's Choice team for Burwood Pegasus will work for an open and financially responsible council. They want to promote local bus services, help reduce crime and graffiti and encourage neighbourhood support groups.
